FEB 13, 1976 Howfar 3.1 (Page 48 and 49) features FEB 13, 1976

Howfar 3.1 (Page 48 and 49) features the much talked about Mercedes Benz Gen. Murtala Mohammed was assassinated in. We have left the “case open’ for all to decipher.

We ‘innocently’ highlighted some visible bullet holes on the body of the car. Reports reaching us confirms someone may have carried our magazine to the National Museum Onikan, where the car is displayed, to crosscheck. 😁🙌🏾 Nice👌🏾👍🏾

There’s another surprise picture (in Howfar ) of General Murtala Mohammed as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1967.

NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING We tried and still can’t NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING

We tried and still can’t understand what these two ‘damsels’ of Nigerian origin are doing..

We may never understand the love between these two friends and the genius who came up with this pose.

However…in ‘the good old days’ a party was not complete without Crush and Limca.

“To say that the Biafra struggle for separate ex “To say that the Biafra struggle for separate existence was merely a rebellion by one man, General Ojukwu, apart from serving the propaganda interests of Lagos, is an insult to the man in the street, who without doubt is the hero of this war. I have therefore tried to establish in this book that the Biafras fought in the belief that it was the only way to protect themselves from possible extermination"

The Nigerian Revolution and the Biafra War is a must read for those interested in Nigerian History. Along with other books of its kind, Alexander A. Madiebo sheds more light on events of the war.

First published in 1980 by Fourth Dimension Publishing Company
Printed in Rome by Linograf. S.p.A.
Original Cover design by Emma Okereke.

In his conclusion he says:

"Major Nzeogwu made a major mistake in sharing out tasks to the officers who were to carry out the revolution in the Lagos area. Some of the officers he chose to neutralize certain senior Northern Nigeria officers happened to be those who had personal grudges against these same officers. They saw this then as an opportunity to engage in a bloody personal vendettas…"

After the 2010 Jos crisis, we released this poster After the 2010 Jos crisis, we released this poster via our old platform ‘switchedonnaija’.

The January 2010 Jos crisis allegedly claimed over 2000 lives. What might be unknown to some is the fact that lives have been lost since 2001.

For a while most of the clashes we tagged ‘religious’ without highlighting the possibility of it (in some cases) being tension between ‘indigenes’ and ‘migrants’. Let’s learn from history!

This is dedicated to the thousands of innocent souls lost from violence, politics, extremism and neglect...not only in Jos, but across Nigeria.

SULEJA ACADEMY In 1982, the Nigerian Federal Gove SULEJA ACADEMY

In 1982, the Nigerian Federal Government set up a committee to brainstorm on the education of “gifted children”

We spoke to Olushola Aromokun, an Alumni.

Tell us about Federal Government Academy Suleja?

Federal Government Academy, Suleja, used to be known as Suleja Academy. The school enrolls gifted and talented Nigerian students. Basically, the rigorous selection process filters and the picks the best primary school students from each state of the federation.

What criteria were used for selection of students?

Rigorous multi-level tests and exams at the local government and state levels. Suleja Academy, Suleja was the school for the gifted and talented. It was a full scholarship programme—a mixed school. Anyone who passed the exam and accepted the invitation to join the school had to be a boarding house student. We didn’t have day students; tuition and other fees were free, and upon resumption you are given a mattress, school uniforms, mosquito nets, cardigan, blazers, socks, and blankets among others.

How would you describe your peers?

Mad (laughs), super talented, super nerds, super geeks. Words can’t describe the weirdness. We were the kind of students that would tear up, if we scored anything less than 100 percent in our exams or tests. The kind of students that were already writing computer programmes before we left primary school. Suleja Academy was the ultimate secondary school, clearing out awards from almost all the categories in any competition; be it sports, academics, JETS, or social.

Describe an average day in a few words?

An average day was filled with chores, meals, classes, sports, siesta, and prep. An average day was a journey of self discovery.

What type of activities did you engage in?

Sports competitions, JETS competitions, academic as well as recreational stuff. We did a lot of reading and growing according to our own pace.

What is your view on education now in comparison to what you experienced?

Education is a joke and far too overpriced and expensive for the value and output. Superficial clones of western education.

Lagos to Sierra Leone is 2000+ Kilometers on foot. We checked. See last slide. 🤓😁

The cartoon about Obasanjos fare-well budget depicts more hardship on the Nigerian public. History also shows this budget ‘could' have been a catalyst for the May 1981 General Strike which lasted 2 days. According to the Nigerian Labour Congress about 700,000 workers participated.

No surprises here! The cartoon depicts our dear political leaders “deliberating” our future.
