Moshood Abiola is My Name – Punch 1982

First Part of an Interview with Chief M.K.O Abiola by Tunde Obadina and Olusoji Akinrinade

Chief Abiola talks about life, his businesses and his first “heated” meeting with General Murtala Mohammed (then Colonel) when the Ministry of Defence owed International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation (ITT) about 3.5 million pounds.

Excerpt 1:
…He saw me at the door. He said this ITT man “get out”. I said no I would not get out, “you are a debtor, you don’t ask your creditor to get out.” There was an argument. I told him you will not enter your room until you give me a commitment to pay the money that you owe….

Excerpt 2 :
“I have people who are a year behind me at school who are his senior in the army. If I had joined the army when I left school I would probably have been your rank or your senior.”

Side Note:
Except 2 comes as no surprise.
Chief M.K.O Abiola and General Obasanjo attended Baptist Boys High School in Abeokuta.
